IT IS.
Even today, there are still 10% of human-beings live without sufficient nutrients supply.
South Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, and East Asia & Pacific countries have the highest undernourishment rate among their populations.
To better understand the situation of people suffering from hunger, we have a indicator called Global Hunger Index, aka GHI
The value of GHI is based on 4 factors, including:
Undernourishment
Stunting Rate (<= 5 y)
Wasting Rate (<= 5y)
Motality Rate (<= 5y)
Stunting is being "too short for one’s age",
Wasting is being "dangerously thin for one’s height"
Let's see how GHI value is distributed worldwide.
South Asia, East Asia & Pacific and Sub-Suharan Africa still have the highest GHI values, but some Central American countries are also among
the higest.
But it's reliefing that the GHI is decreased through time around the world.
To zoom in the detail of what it's like for high-GHI countries in terms of all the detailed factors, we have selected 12
Sub-Saharan African countries to show their detailed factor distributions.
These are the data for .
Generally, developemnt of economy would result in lower GHI in all aspects, however, outliers that live outside this "common sense" exist, which indicate
that the situation might be much more complicated.
For example, a country listed above named "Djibouti" has incresed its DGP rapidly for the recent 20 years,
although the Undernourishment rate (for all population) has dropped significantly, its Stunting and Wasting rates (only for children under 5) remain high and are event
going upwards.
Here you can check over 100 countries or regions around the world to check how strong the pattern of GDP-GHI correlation is, how common outliers exist, who are they, and feel free to dig deeper from here.
